I am very sorry to say I missed November's Simplicity Project. Does cleaning out the turkey count?! Let's call this one a few hours (20 to be exact) late.
Since this post falls right in the middle of the end of November and the beginning of December, I'd like to talk about simplifying Christmas gifts. Last year I read an article that included this idea. Dave and I agreed to immediately implement it so that Hope understood from the beginning that Christmas is not about her. Each year we now give each other 3 gifts. Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. . .
Gold - the big gift we've been wanting or hoping for (this year Hope is getting a big, comfy chair I know she'll love climbing in and out of).
Frankincense - something for the body.
Myrrh - something for our spiritual development.
I cannot tell you how this helps us keep things in perspective. I am one that could go nuts buying gifts. I love to buy fun things for people. It's so easy to go crazy thinking Hope needs every one of those cute new toys out there. But in reality, she does not. What she actually needs is to learn that Christmas is about the greatest gift of all, our Saviour Jesus Christ.
I encourage every one of you to simplify the holidays in whatever way makes sense for your family so that He can be the centerpiece of the season.
Enjoy the magic and the miracle of December.

I love the gold frankincense and myrrh gift idea! My mom did this for several years with the grandkids. I love that you're doing it from the beginning with Hope - it is so easy to get caught up in the gift extravaganza and miss the essence of Christmas!
