How Do You See Jesus?

We have this mirror in the bathroom where Hope takes a bath. It's one of those celestial sun and moon varieties. This one is the moon. You know, the one with the chubby cheeks. Every time we give Hope a bath, snuggle her up in her towel and then walk out the door we pass this mirror. . .and every time she smiles, points and says, "Jesus" like she's so relieved he's still there on the wall watching over her. At first I was horrified. What kind of new-age operation does she think we're running over here? She did it again last night and almost giggled as she looked at it. Dave and I always giggle ourselves and we wonder why she thinks of Jesus when she sees the mirror. Mr. Moon does look kind and peaceful and like he's watching over us so it's not a completely crazy idea. After all, she's 20 months old how should she know what Jesus looks like?!

It's made me think lately. How do I see Jesus? It's hard to get the typical dark haired, fully robed image out of my head. I'm sure even that image is far from reality. Seeing Jesus through the eyes of my child and our Mr. Moon mirror has made me focus more on his countenance and less on his appearance. Jesus oozed love and peace and a steadfast spirit. He was not anxious, confused, at odds or any of the emotions we feel on a daily basis.

I also want to ooze these things so that people can see Jesus in me. If my toddler sees any part of Jesus in our Mr. Moon mirror, she had better see it in me as well.

I'll add this to my goals for 2010!
Happy New Year everyone!

Mmmm...this is good Jess!! Thanks for a sweet reminder to contemplate the countenance of Jesus and how I can emulate Him.

I wrote a blog about a month ago about Amanda seeing Jesus too. SO precious and yes, it really does make me think about a lot. You worded it so very well!
