I've been pondering this weekend how to explain Easter to my almost 2 year old. We have a board book about Jesus that mentions we celebrate Easter because Jesus died for us on the cross. We usually breeze past that page as I'm not ready to explain death to my toddler. But how do you share about the holiday without using the words "death" or "suffering"?
This morning I gave it my best shot. "Hope, do you know that tomorrow is Easter? On Easter we celebrate Jesus' biggest miracle. Can you say THANK YOU JESUS?!" And she shouted, "THANK YOU JESUS!" I suppose it's a start. I doubt she'll ask me to explain more about what the miracle actually was. Maybe I don't have to go any further than that but I am burdened by wanting her tiny little heart to understand what Jesus did for her. I know I have years to get there. I guess teaching her to be thankful first is the best start.
How do you share Easter with your little ones? I'd love to hear.
Praying for a thankful heart in all of us this resurrection weekend.
Jessica
